Nathalia Restrepo. Reflection #1

Group 1 Focused on the evolving nature of public speaking, building confidence, listening skills, and adapting to the audience. They emphasized the historical roots of public speaking, tracing back to Greek philosophers and their foundational principles, such as Aristotle's appeals to ethos, pathos, logos, and mythos. This grounding in classical rhetoric highlights the importance of credibility and emotional connection with the audience. A key takeaway was the need to create a respectful and engaging atmosphere for the audience. By establishing a conversational tone, speakers can foster better engagement. The presentation also covered practical strategies for building confidence, such as mindfulness, preparation, and managing anxiety through techniques like positive self-talk and relaxation exercises. I found this particularly relevant, as many students often grapple with nervousness before speaking. Listening, as outlined in Chapter 3, was highlighted as an essential skill for bot...

Ricky Rodriguez Reflection #1

Group 1     I thought it was pretty exceptional from what I remember about their presentation. Everyone seemed pretty confident in what they were saying about chapters 1-5 (except 4). I didn't feel like I needed to go back and read the chapters, I remember they spoke about the evolution of public speaking for chapter 1 and how to build that confidence in chapter 2. I remember them speaking about breathing exercises and how you can meditate to regulate your heart rate during your speech. I remember chapter 3 was all about being a better listener. I specifically remember them talking about how you can't be a good speaker without listening to your audience. Listening to your audience can also help you adapt to connect with your audience more. Chapter 5 was about physically connecting with your audience and asking them questions. By being invested in what they have to say you'll be able to connect with them more, asking about certain views and  interests. Gr...

Bryan Duran - Reflection

Group 1 I'll start with Group 1 to begin this reflection. They reviewed the fundamentals of public speaking and techniques for boosting confidence in chapters 1 through 5, which served as the center of their presentation. They did a good job of highlighting the importance of public speaking in the modern economy and the value of having great communication skills in both personal and professional settings. The group also emphasized the significance of careful planning while writing and presenting a speech, emphasizing that a speaker with proper preparation is more likely to connect with and persuade their audience. They emphasized that listening is an essential ability that promotes meaningful conversation and a greater comprehension of other people's perspectives, not merely a passive activity. Consequently, this enables presenters to react with consideration and establish a more genuine connection with their listeners. The presentation also addressed audience definition and ...

Paul Flores Reflection #1

Public Speaking, we have all done it one way or another. From ceremonies to class participation, we have shared our vocal range and expressed ourselves so much through it. But what is Public Speaking? Public Speaking is the process of communicating information to a live audience and is given to persuade, teach, and open ideas for those who are intrigued by the speech. As the title of this class states, we are opening ourselves through public speaking and taking steps to become proficient speakers by learning and committing to assignments that will further educate not just ourselves but others as well. For our first assignment in our introduction to public speaking class, we all split up into groups of four and were given chapters to work on and present to the entire class. Each group will have 30 minutes to present their slides and then later write a reflection. I will be reflecting on the chapters each group were assigned to work on. Group One: Chapters 1,2,3,5 ...

Queen Madrid- Reflection #1

QUEEN MADRID Communication is the backbone of our society. It allows us to form connections, influence, decisions and motivate change. Without communication skills, the ability to progress in the world and in life would be nearly impossible. Public speaking is one of the most important and most dreaded forms of communication. Speech anxiety, is the most common fear people have across the globe. I remember throughout my primary school days, I was one of the student who sits in the back of the classroom and avoids raising my hand or eye contact to my teacher to dodge such situations. Public speaking is a vital skill to have and hone. It affects simple, everyday interactions between students, coworkers, employees, marketing professionals and clients, etc., and it can have an enormous impact on your career path and your level of success in the industry. Growing up, I promised myself that I will do my best to overcome my fear of public speaking as this is a vital skill anyon...

Review of Groups

Group 1   To start off with group one, to be honest, I do not remember any of what g roup one has said so I read the chapte r they did (1,2,3,5).     Chapter 1, starts off with The Evolving Art of Public Speaking, which starts off by showing us what is public speech , how to Optimize speech, how to Interact with the audience its history, and how over many years it has become an evolving art . One main thing I really liked about chapter one is that it tells you to build up your confidence and how you can build said confidence one way is breathing exercises, breathing in and out to slow down your heart rate.   Chapter 2, is all about controlling your anxiety, and confidence building.   As I went on with this chapter I learned what makes a person get anxiety, and ways to feel less of it. One way is building resilience , which is adapting to adverse situations and continuing to function, let's say you're with an audience of one hundred and yo...
