Review of Groups

 Group 1

To start off with group one, to be honest, I do not remember any of what group one has said so I read the chapter they did (1,2,3,5).

Chapter 1, starts off with The Evolving Art of Public Speaking, which starts off by showing us what is public speech, how to Optimize speech, how to Interact with the audience its history, and how over many years it has become an evolving art. One main thing I really liked about chapter one is that it tells you to build up your confidence and how you can build said confidence one way is breathing exercises, breathing in and out to slow down your heart rate.

Chapter 2, is all about controlling your anxiety, and confidence building.

As I went on with this chapter I learned what makes a person get anxiety, and ways to feel less of it. One way is building resilience, which is adapting to adverse situations and continuing to function, let's say you're with an audience of one hundred and you start to stutter, well you can take a short water break on stage and cool down a bit. Another One is defusion, which is when you repeat a negative word until it sounds silly, like saying brainless over and over the unit you start to find it funny, now don't laugh out loud as you might sound a bit insane.

Chapter 3 is all about listening. Not as you being part of the audience and listening to the speaker but you as a speaker listening to the audience hearing the “hidden choirs". What I learned in this chapter is as you speak listen not just after you’re done with your speech but as you’re saying your speech, this is a hard thing to do but if you hear what they think you’ll be able to adapt as you speak.

Chapter 5 is about getting to know your audience and connecting with them.

Here I learned about audience analysis, which is getting to know important things about the people you’ll be addressing, like their views, interest, and even their needs. By being more connected to your audience, you’ll be even more successful at connecting with your audience.

Group 2

Group two did a lot better, I still don’t remember much but there was this one guy who spoke a lot and with lots of confidence, he spoke about how you should speak and as he was speaking, he was showing off what he was speaking like for example, as he was talking he said no word for but said, “don’t just stand still move around the stag” and as he was saying that he was moving around showing us himself as an example. That group thought a lot better than group one.

As they started the presentation, they started off with chapter 4.

Chapter 4 was about identifying your specific purpose. It showed us how to develop our purpose, and ways to start one way is to question yourself about what your speech’s purpose is by questioning like asking “Is it to inform my audience about? or is it to explain to my audience why X, Y, and Z are important stuff like that.

Chapter 6 is about Researching your topic, the main points being; being Prepared, gathering information such as in the library, internet, or even doing interviews.

Some strategy that is shown is making a list of words associated with your topic, so if your topic is about why dogs are better than cats, you’ll list things like “why are dogs better than cats” or “studies about how having a dog can benefit you in many ways” stuff like that.

Chapter 7 is about Supporting your ideas, as you do your research, you must find credible sources for their speeches and use Ethos, Pathos, Logos, and Mythos.

Another thing in this chapter is using examples in your speech, like let's say that you're talking about recycling you as the speaker can bring up images showing how one can recycle, this will leave a longer impression on the audience.

Chapter 8, organizing and outlining your speech

In this chapter, I learn how to organize my speech in ways that will connect to the audience and use the guiding principles of clarity to develop the speech's main points.

Group 3 (mine)

I believe my group did the best I know it sounds egotistical, but I know we did great even though we started off a bit ruff and by we I mean me, just reading and not even looking up to look at the audience, one of the best presenters was Pual he was not just a great presenter but a great leader too helping us as we went along. Moving to what our PowerPoint was about and its Chapters.

Chapter 9, my chapter.

My chapter was all about how to start and end your speech. The chapter shows us how to make a good attention-getter, giving purpose and thesis statement, providing credibility, and many other things. But the main parts are starting and ending a speech and providing credibility. As my partner Queen started I showed how one can start a speech such as a story that will get the audience’s attention or make a rhetorical question. After I was done with my part it was Queen’s part, she was to teach how to end a speech showing that you can use a quote to end.

Chapter 10 is how one can use language effectively, one way to use your language is how one speaks. Speakers can speak in a Montone way that will make the audience not remember and get bored or they can speak with so much emotion that the audience will remember it. Another thing is showing us Guidelines for the speech such as being straightforward with your message and not always looking for the “right words”.

Chapter 11, Integrating presentation media.

This chapter starts off by asking us “Why use Presentation media” Well it's quite easy, it helps a lot in connecting with the audience and demonstrates your creativity. Imagine going to a presentation and the speaker is just on stage yapping and yapping and nothing else. No one is going to like that. Now imagine the same speech but this time they have a massive TV showing pictures, and graphs, or even videos about their topic, this will be hundreds of times better than just standing there and reading.

Chapter 12, Speach delivery.

As we reach the end of group three, we hit speech delivery which is knowing how to present yourself to the audience and how to control stress, it's an excellent chapter as it shows many ways to control stress one is breathing in and out, another one is practicing with a smaller group like getting your family to listen to you or a friend group.

Group 4

The final group, yet again I did not really remember much as they were very monotone in their presentation, so I read the chapters they did

Chapter 13, informative speaking, chapter 13 is about how to raise awareness, increase knowledge, and deepen the understanding of your topic, as you go into this chapter, you’ll learn what gate watching is, which is actively monitoring news sources to assess the informant the information those source produce.

Chapter 14, Persuasive Speaking, most of these chapters are mostly based on ways you can speak like this one being persuasive, like using images or other means of communication to influence people’s beliefs. It shows the difference between coercion and persuasion.

Chapter 15, Understanding Argument

In this chapter, you learn about the three major elements, use evidence, and apply logos, ethos, pathos, and mythos effectively. This chapter is mainly about how to make a good argument and how to back it up with evidence and reasoning.

Chapter 16, Distance speaking and media appearances.

This chapter is all about being a media spokesperson and learning what makes a good spokesperson, such as allowing people to interact with you by video or calls. Another thing that this chapter teaches is what to do if you are to speak into a camera, you can focus on the camera and not the audience and encourage participants to use interactive tools to ask questions.

Chapter 17 the final chapter of this review, Special Occasion and Group Presentations  On special occasions such as nominations, you always must be well informed even if you didn’t know you got nominated and you cannot fumble your wording. Another occasion is the acceptance speech, basically the same as the nomination speech but this time you must express gratitude and humility, always be thankful for those who have helped you get this far.

Final Review overall

To be as realistic as I can I enjoyed making this presentation, not only did it show that I can in fact speak in front of an audience (somewhat), but it can show that I and my group members can work together to make something great.
