Ricky Rodriguez Reflection #1
Group 1
I thought it was pretty exceptional from what I remember about their presentation. Everyone seemed pretty confident in what they were saying about chapters 1-5 (except 4). I didn't feel like I needed to go back and read the chapters, I remember they spoke about the evolution of public speaking for chapter 1 and how to build that confidence in chapter 2. I remember them speaking about breathing exercises and how you can meditate to regulate your heart rate during your speech. I remember chapter 3 was all about being a better listener. I specifically remember them talking about how you can't be a good speaker without listening to your audience. Listening to your audience can also help you adapt to connect with your audience more. Chapter 5 was about physically connecting with your audience and asking them questions. By being invested in what they have to say you'll be able to connect with them more, asking about certain views and interests.
Group 2
I actually thought this group spoke great. I thought they were the most well put-together (aside from our group). They had a great way of switching their presenters and a great flow of speech throughout the whole thing. I specifically remember there was a guy whose speech stood out the most that was in group 2. He was very well spoken, he got straight to the point every time and I don't even think he looked at a single note or anything. He seemed very knowledgeable on his topic. They presented Chapters 4-8. I also pretty much remembered a lot of the things they spoke about and I didn't have to go and read their chapters after. Chapter 4 I remember was getting more into the specifics of public speaking, Knowing exactly what your speech is trying to accomplish. Is it trying to inform, convince, or explain to my audience. It was trying to get you to develop a purpose. Chapter 6 was about being prepared for your speech, properly researching your topic and having information to back it up. They also spoke about having enough information to properly deliver your speech. Chapter 7 was about supporting your ideas. Also making sure you do your research. You have to have lots of credible evidence, I also remember them speaking about using ethos, pathos, logos, and mythos. They also went in depth and spoke about what it all meant and where to use them to support your main ideas. Lastly, Chapter 8 was about the outline/organization of your speech. There were guiding principles on how to properly form your speech and make sure it gets all put together. It was all about making things clear to see the main point of your speech.
Group 3
Group 3 was our group, which I really thought did pretty well and was up there with group 2. I think we both did really good and were the top two of the class. I also feel like we were pretty fluid within switching speakers and the overall flow of speech. I feel like we had a great introduction with chapter 9, my partners Queen and Bryan did great and I feel like they were the ones who set the path for us to do as well as we did. I also pretty much remember what my group spoke about and didn't have to go back and read the chapters. Chapter 9 was about how to properly start and finish your speech. To start it, having a good thesis statement and/or hook will get your audience captivated and dialed into whatever you have to say. To end a speech I remember queen saying it was good to use quotations or videos to finish things off. Chapter 10 was about how to use certain language effectively like using key words and the tone of voice you present it. Speaking with emotion rather than speaking in a monotone manner would be better way to captivate your audience. I also remember how they said it can be too much, too many words and straying from the point. Chapter 11 was my chapter, my partner was Naty and she did a great job of opening strong. I feel like she wasted no time and got straight into it and the great thing was that she covered all of her bases and didn't miss a thing. But after her of course it was me and I really just went off the top of my head. I had a little bit of an idea of what I was going to do for the speech but I ended up just using my improv skills and I feel like I did exceptional. I don't feel like I missed anything and I feel like I kept the audience pretty engaged throughout my section. It was about incorporating presentation media. I spoke about the use of PowerPoints, flyers, cameras, videos in your presentations without losing the audiences attention. I myself incorporated certain images that may or may not have made some people laugh which I feel like is a good way of keeping your audiences attention. After our chapter it was chapter 12 and that was speech delivery. That got into more of how to present yourself to the audience and how to compose yourself during your speech delivery. Bryan spoke about certain body language too and how getting up and walking around to see your audience can keep them locked in.
Group 4
Group 4 was decent. I did have to go back and read the chapters because I didn't really feel like they had a good flow. It was a little messy but I still picked some things up from what they were saying. I definitely feel like they could use a little bit of work but they still did very very decent. Group 4 presented chapters 13-17. Chapter 13 was about deepening the understanding of your topic. How you still have more to learn from your audience. Chapter 14 was about persuasive speaking, getting to know your audience to influence their beliefs. Chapter 15 spoke of the overall understanding of argument, learning about the three major elements on how to persuade your audience. Using proper evidence and applying logos, ethos, and pathos. Chapter 16 was about being a spokesperson and media appearances from what I remember. It's the distance aspect of public speaking so having your audience interact with you via text or call or using other tools to interact. speaking into cameras rather into audiences was also an important key I got from this chapter. Chapter 17 spoke about special occasions and presenting into a circle of people for an important reason. I remember they spoke about light jokes and staying humble in the presentation. Keeping everything pretty much grounded and expressing your feelings well.
Well...very good and detailed reflection. Good job!!
